Hackers Are At It Again

This morning scammers tried to “get me” again with trying to “trick me” into giving them my account details. It is very important for others to understand so that these scammers stay in the dark. This morning I received the following email “supposedly” from Bandcamp which is one of the online platforms on which my music is sold.

Notice Bandcamp alerts me that the message was sent to me using the “contact form on your Bandcamp page”. It further asserts that “Bandcamp will never use this form to contact you directly and any messages sent through this form claiming to be from Bandcamp may be a phishing or scam attempt.” And indeed it was. Notice the message in the grey box which came from the scammer. It is asking me to “follow the link”, which leads to a fake website, and is trying to command urgency by telling me there is a deadline, so I’d better act fast. This is one of the many scams and attacks I have had to deal with but thankfully I am tech savvy. In Apple Mail If you click the “Reply-To” field it will show you the “real” sender who in this case is “bandteam@gmail.com”. Scammers can use these same tactics to steal and extort people for money, they can also hurt brand reputations among many other things. A normal person may have overlooked all the red flags. As part of my cyber security lesson, I am encouraging all to stay informed and be cautious.
